QUAD….. think of it as a four wheel drive for your golf game! In 2006, an amendment was made to the Rules of Golf that would include a moment of inertia (MOI) measurement about a vertical axis through the clubhead’s center of gravity (CG) of a maximum of 6000g - cm2. Technical Reports show that the current 460cc conventionally shaped drivers have an average MOI of 4000g - cm2. Those reports also say that the MOI of a well designed square driver will be in the area of 5200 g-cm2. GCR’s new Quad Driver is 5200g – cm2 . This is a thirty per cent increase in the moment of inertia (or in simple terms, the resistance to twisting) of the Driver head on both the vertical axis (heel to toe) and the horizontal axis (top to bottom). This dramatic increase in MOI is achieved by moving weight further from the CG than was ever possible in a traditional pear shape driver, due to the back corners of the square shape being further from the CG than what was permitted in a traditional shape. We could continue to baffle you with technical statistics and finite analysis, but suffice to say that the new Quad has more in built technology than ever before possible, and what this “techno speak” means in simple terms is that the new GCR Studio Design Quad Driver will be more forgiving and more stable when hit off centre and deliver more distance and better accuracy for off centre shots. By redesigning each wall of the head, and employing a super thin crown and utilising various grades of titanium, additional weight was able to be positioned on all four “corners” of the club, resulting in the straightest driver you will ever hit! Some will not be able to come to terms with the radical shape, and for those people there are four other Studio Design Drivers to suit various golfers.
